Dysport

Dysport, aka abobotulinumtoxin A, is an injectable neuromodulator designed to temporarily smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles. Derived from botulinum toxin type A, Dysport is purified to target specific facial muscles.

FDA-approved since April 2009, Dysport effectively treats glabellar lines. It’s also used for treating forehead lines, crow’s feet, and for medical conditions like cervical dystonia and muscle spasms.

Although Dysport and Botox are both derived from botulinum toxin, they differ slightly. Dysport contains smaller molecules that spread in larger areas, as compared to Botox. Dysport injections relax targeted muscles, reducing wrinkles while preserving surrounding areas. It’s also used for Dysport lip flips to enhance lip volume and for treating crow’s feet.

What can I expect during my appointment?

Dysport is injected intothe skin with a fine needle. During this 15-20 minute procedure, most patients experience only mild discomfort, so we may apply a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort during the session. The amount of Dysport that is used will vary, depending on the degree of the frown lines being addressed. After the treatment is finished, you can return to normal activities immediately.

What can I expect from the results?

Though results vary, most patients can typically see a noticeable improvement in their facial lines within a couple of days. The full effect is usually seen after one week. One treatment is known to last for several months. For ongoing results, we recommend a treatment plan of injections every 3-4 months. This will allow you to keep seeing positive results before the effects of the previous injection fade.
